Practice Policies

Shine Psychiatry, PLLC

Effective Date: 01/01/2026

Practice Policies are designed to support a high-quality, structured, and respectful care experience. Policies are subject to change at any time. The most current version will be maintained by Shine Psychiatry and made available upon request.

Appointment Policy

Appointments are reserved exclusively for each patient. To preserve dedicated physician time, Shine Psychiatry does not double-book.

All appointments, both concierge and non-concierge, require at least two (2) full business days (48 hours) notice for cancellation or rescheduling.

A late cancellation is defined as canceling within 48 hours of the scheduled appointment without prior approval. A no-show is defined as failure to attend a scheduled appointment without prior notification or approval, leading to a missed appointment.

Appointments canceled with less than required notice, or missed without notice, may incur a late cancellation or no-show fee, regardless of concierge membership status.

Concierge No-Show / Late Cancellation Fees

Concierge appointments involve extended, protected physician time. The following fees apply:

  • Medication Management Visit: $250

  • Psychotherapy or Extended Visit: $500

These fees:

  • Are not included in concierge membership.

  • Are the responsibility of the client.

  • Will be charged to the payment method on file.

  • Reflect reserved physician time that cannot be reallocated on short notice.

Courtesy & Discretion

  • One courtesy waiver per membership year may be granted at the sole discretion of Shine Psychiatry.

  • Fees may be waived in the event of a true emergency, at the physician's discretion.

  • Repeated missed appointments may result in modification of concierge access, loss of scheduling priority, or termination of concierge services.

Non-concierge No-Show / Late Cancellation Fees
  • Late cancellation and no-shows are charged at 100% of the scheduled visit fee

These fees:

  • Are the responsibility of the client.

  • Will be charged to the payment method on file.

  • Reflect reserved physician time that cannot be reallocated on short notice.

Courtesy & Discretion

  • Fees may be waived in the event of a true emergency, at the physician's discretion.

  • Three (3) or more missed or late-canceled appointments may result in dismissal from the practice.

Payment Authorization

By scheduling an appointment, you agree to maintain a valid payment method on file and authorize Shine Psychiatry to charge this method for all applicable fees, including late cancellation and no-show charges.

Patient Dismissal Policy

Shine Psychiatry reserves the right to terminate the patient-physician relationship with or without cause. Reasons for dismissal may include, but are not limited to, repeated missed appointments, late cancellations, boundary violations, or inappropriate behavior.

If ongoing psychiatric care is required, patients are encouraged to establish care with another provider promptly. When appropriate, alternative resources may be provided.

Upon receipt of a signed authorization, medical records will be forwarded to your new provider. When clinically appropriate, Shine Psychiatry will provide up to thirty (30) days of emergency medication coverage to allow time for transition of care.

Emergency & Crisis Policy

Shine Psychiatry is not an emergency service.

In the event of an emergency or if you are at risk of harming yourself or others, you agree to:

  • Call 911

  • Go to the nearest emergency department

  • Contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

Concierge access does not include 24/7 availability, crisis intervention, or emergency response services.

Medication Refill Policy

Patients (or guardians) are responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of medications.

  • Medications are prescribed to last until the next scheduled appointment.

  • Dose adjustments are addressed during scheduled visits.

  • Refill requests outside of appointments are not guaranteed and may require a follow-up visit.

  • Refill requests are processed during regular business hours and are not considered urgent.

  • Refills may not be provided if appointments are missed or overdue.

Controlled Substance Policy

Controlled substances include medications regulated by state and federal law due to their potential for dependence, misuse, or diversion.

Shine Psychiatry reserves the right to modify or discontinue controlled substances at any time based on clinical judgment, safety concerns, or regulatory requirements.

Patients prescribed controlled substances must:

  • Complete and sign the Controlled Substance Agreement.

  • Take the prescribed medications as directed.

  • Attend required follow-up appointments.

  • Understand that early, extra, or replacement refills are not guaranteed.

Shine Psychiatry does not prescribe opioids or pain medications.

Insurance & Payment Model

Shine Psychiatry is a private-pay, concierge telepsychiatry practice and does not participate in insurance networks.

Our model allows for longer visits, greater accessibility, and more individualized care than typically permitted by insurance-based practices.

Some insurance plans offer out-of-network reimbursement. Patients are responsible for verifying their benefits. A superbill can be provided upon request.

Dr. Elise Shin is credentialed with select insurance plans. Patients interested in using insurance should contact the clinic at (512) 953-3973 to discuss available options. We will make reasonable efforts to help minimize out-of-pocket costs when possible.

Client Paperwork & Administrative Requests
Disability and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Policy

Completion of disability or FMLA documentation requires significant clinical review and physician time. Approval is based solely on clinical judgment, and additional fees may apply.

Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Policy

ESA letters are provided only when clinically appropriate and supported by medical necessity. Requests made solely for administrative or convenience purposes (e.g. housing deposits, travel accommodations) do not meet clinical criteria and will not be approved.

Changes to This Policy

We reserve the right to update this Practice Policies at any time. Changes will be effective upon posting. The effective date will be updated accordingly.
